People of America, we have heard you loud and clear. The overwhelming mandate you passed on to us at the midterm elections is a great responsibility we will not take for granted.
We heard the two messages you gave us - that the corruption and misconduct of the Trump Administration has gone well beyond “too far” and that accountability must happen. And also we heard of your pain - of the immiseration that Trump has inflicted on you, on your families, on your communities, on everyone except the handful of billionaires who continue to prop him up.
We will deliver on these two pressing needs. We will engage in robust congressional oversight and doggedly seek out the corruption Trump has planted into our agencies and institutions. A full and comprehensive package that will shy away from nothing. Investigations. Public hearings. Subpoenas. Impeachment proceedings. The appointing of special prosecutors. Recommendations for indictments. Any and all of this is on the table and will be deployed where it is warranted.
But also, we will be prudent with the power of the purse. We won’t expend all these resources on the ultra wealthy who can easily afford oversight programs on their own. These congressional investigations will be strictly means tested to ensure we aren’t wasting oversight capabilities on the 1%. This package of focused congressional attention will only be available to persons making less than 263% of the poverty line to ensure that those without the means can finally have their day in court.
